Too many churches seem to have lost sight of what Jesus was all about. Their messages of exclusion, judgment, and condemnation are the opposite of what he said and did. Jesus didn’t exclude others, he welcomed them. He didn’t judge others, he befriended them. He didn’t condemn others, he forgave them. And those of us who say we’re his followers are called to do the same.
At the United Church of Christ at North Gorham, that calling is what we aspire to live out together. Our world has more than enough churches that focus on what’s supposedly wrong with everybody else; we want to be a church that celebrates every person as a beloved child of God.
